2027 Hyundai Tucson Unveiled in South Korea: Here’s What’s New

Saudi Arabia: Hyundai has officially unveiled its fifth-generation (NX5) Tucson at an event in Paju, South Korea. The 2027 model is larger in every key dimension, introduces a more powerful hybrid engine option, and adds a new adventure-oriented XRT trim to the lineup. It's a clear signal of Hyundai's intent to push the Tucson further into the rugged crossover space occupied by rivals like the Toyota RAV4. Here is the official breakdown of the bigger, tech-focused compact SUV, the 2027 Hyundai Tucson.

Bigger frame, new language

The new Tucson is the most aerodynamic Tucson yet. It has a drag coefficient of 0.33, down from the previous 0.30. It is 60 mm longer, 40 mm wider, and sits on a 30 mm longer wheelbase than the outgoing model. That larger footprint results in more cabin space, with Hyundai claiming a 29 mm increase in rear seat headroom. The redesign also improves airflow, with a new rear spoiler, active air flaps and 17-inch wheels helping to cut aerodynamic drag. It is based on the exterior styling which Hyundai calls its "Art of Steel" language. It directly borrows cues from the new Kona, whether it is the split headlamps and full-width light bars at the front and rear.

The 17-inch cockpit

The redesigned interior features a central display of up to 17 inches, moving away from the previous generation's layout. Inside, the cabin architecture is completely new. A large, Tesla-style central screen, available in 12.9-inch or 17-inch sizes, dominates the dashboard and runs Hyundai's Pleos Connect infotainment suite, a system that includes a generative AI assistant named Gleo AI. The traditional instrument binnacle is replaced by a slim, minimalist display. The cabin features dual wireless charging pads for smartphones, and the rear doors now open to a much wider 83 degrees, up from 73, for easier access to the back seats, improving overall practicality. Full material and upholstery specifications for the Saudi market are yet to be confirmed.

It isn't yet clear if both the standard turbo and the hybrid will be offered in Saudi Arabia. Transmission details are still to be confirmed, as is what it would bring to the kingdom. 

XRT: off-road intent

For the first time, Hyundai is offering a dedicated rugged trim called the XRT. The XRT is designed as a light, off-road-oriented package with rugged styling and equipment to the standard model and brings all-wheel drive as standard. 

• Front Design: Distinctive XRT-specific front grille with a substantial front skid plate.
• Exterior Cladding: More prominent black plastic cladding around the wheel arches and bumpers.
• Wheels: XRT-specific black wheels featuring XRT lettering.
• All-Wheel Drive: Equipped with Hyundai’s HTRAC all-wheel drive system.
• Rear Design: XRT-specific rear bumper with an additional skid plate.
• Interior Protection: Protective floor mats designed for added practicality.
• Seat Upholstery: Exclusive XRT-specific seat upholstery.
• Interior Trim: Darkened trim elements with a forged carbon-inspired pattern.

This positions the XRT as a direct competitor to other light off-road packages in the segment.

Saudi market outlook

The new-generation Hyundai Tucson is set to reach South Korean dealerships in October 2026, followed by its wider global rollout. However, Hyundai's authorised dealers in Saudi Arabia have not yet confirmed when the updated SUV will arrive in the Kingdom. Details regarding the Saudi-spec trims, powertrain options and official pricing are also yet to be announced.
