Ford Territory vs Haval H6 Comparison: Which Compact SUV Should You Buy?

Given the ‘blue oval’ branding of one of the cars, this might seem as an American vs Chinese comparison. However, behind the scenes, this is more of a fully-Chinese vs semi-Chinese comparison as the Ford Territory isn’t entirely American in origin. Where there is similarity is in terms of the segment these cars belong to – both are compact crossover SUVs.

Under the skin, the new Ford Territory shares its platform with the China-only Ford Equator SUV. Whereas, the Haval H6 is based on the automaker’s LEMON B30 platform, which also underpins the Haval Jolion. Since the launch of the Territory in 2023, Ford KSA has seen a noticeable uptick in sales. All that said, which of these two compact SUVs should you buy? Let’s find out.

Price Comparison

1. There are three main variants of the 2026 Ford Territory in Saudi Arabia. The base Ambiente variant starts at SAR 103,900, followed by the mid-spec Trend variant at SAR 115,900. Meanwhile, the fully-loaded Titanium variant of the new Territory is priced at SAR 133,900. Also joining the lineup is the 2026 Ford Territory Hybrid, likely to be offered in at least two trims: Trend and Titanium.

2. The 2026 Haval H6 is available in two variants in Saudi Arabia. The entry-level model is called the Active and is priced at SAR 89,900. Customers who want slightly more robust features can upgrade to the Premium variant by paying SAR 98,900. Great Wall Motors or GWM handles the distribution of the Haval H6 in KSA.

The Chinese automaker offers customers of the Haval H6 with a warranty coverage lasting 6 years or 200,000 km. The H6 is more affordable than the Territory by up to SAR 35,000, which is a considerable amount of money. With price out of the way, let’s shift our attention to the exterior of these two cars.

Dimensions Comparison

In some respects, the Ford Territory and Haval H6 are pretty much of similar sizes. This isn’t totally surprising as they belong to the same segment. But look closer and a few differences become quite apparent, thankfully neither can be visually confused for the other.

 While the H6 is slightly narrower than the Territory, it beats the Ford on length, height, and wheelbase. The Haval H6’s size advantage allows it more prominence when parked at the kerb. However, this is then clubbed together with a smorgasbord of rather unnecessary styling choices – some of which are, well, inspirations. There are hints of Cadillac, Hyundai, BMW, and Lexus design cues along the bodywork.

Long story short, the Haval H6 looks modern and inoffensive if a bit derivative and unimaginative. Its larger dimensions translate to increased boot capacity and interior space, both of which are nice to have. The Ford Territory looks squarer and boxier in comparison – generally considered as an SUV design hallmark. It’s also a fair bit wider than the H6, which frees up extra shoulder room in the cabin.

The Territory’s flatter bonnet offers a more unobstructed view for the driver, whilst the unique shape of its headlamps is more distinctive. Where the lower variants of the Territory are restricted to 18-inch wheels, the H6 gets 19-inch rims across trims. Haval offers the H6 with dark and light interiors, with the latter highlighting the sense of space. Its relatively-low dashboard helps too, but the elevated centre console reduces that spacious feel.

The interior designs of both these cars do away with visual clutter, choosing a minimalistic layout instead. The Territory gets piano black and metal trim along with capacitive-touch buttons on the centre console, whilst the H6 offers textured surfaces and physical buttons. Neither cabin feels particularly low-rent nor are they difficult to get used to.

Unlike the old model, the 2026 Ford Territory is offered with two powertrain options. The differences between the ICE-only new model and its predecessor aren’t chalk & cheese, but not so with the all-new Territory Hybrid.  The Ford Territory is not the right tool for thrill-seekers. However, even without the assistance from an electric motor, it gets up to speed without throwing much of a tantrum. The punchy EcoBoost engine works well with the wet-clutch DCT, enabling the Territory to cruise effortlessly at 110-120 kmph. While the three-cylinder engine in the Territory Hybrid doesn’t sound impressive, the 80hp electric motor aiding it easily makes up for that.

The hybrid powertrain comes into its own when navigating slow-moving traffic. This is where the small lithium-ion battery and its companion electric motor fill-in the performance gaps, ensuring unimpeded but leisurely forward progress. If you don’t cane the hybrid system much, it’ll reward you with excellent fuel economy. The Ford Territory drives well enough but rides even better. It remains composed at highway speeds and the light steering makes city commutes child’s play.

The Haval H6 wields more power and torque, courtesy of its larger turbo-petrol engine. This not only makes it faster than the Territory but also slightly more fun to drive when you mash your right foot. The powertrain is mostly well-behaved and offers enough oomph over a wide rev range, with the dual-clutch gearbox being quick too.

Out on the highway, the H6 performs well and overtaking is a non-issue even over 100 kmph. The thick A pillars, however, can obstruct your view when trying to snake through traffic or around a roundabout. The suspension of the Haval H6 is firmer than the Territory, but that also inspires confidence as the speed climbs. Conversely, it’s not as conservative on fuel consumption as the Ford.

Now it’s time for us to check out what each car offers in terms of exterior features. It shouldn’t come as a surprise to many that the true Chinese car here is packed with a lot more standard equipment than its American counterpart.  The aforementioned piano-black trim on the centre console of the Ford Territory might add a premium touch, but they scratch easy too. Then there’s its rotary gear selector which, while straightforward, doesn’t feel as intuitive as the stalk-type selector in the Haval H6. The sense of space and width in the front seats of the Territory is better, but the thick bezels around its dual screens look terrible.

The cabin of the Haval H6 feels more cocooned in comparison, offering soft-touch materials and modern-looking screens. While there are pronounced bezels here too, they aren’t as garish as those in the Ford. The slight perforations integrated into the flat-bottom steering wheel of the Territory is a practical touch – its overall design is good, too. There’s plenty of usable headroom in the H6, with lots of light entering the cabin via its larger rear three-quarter glass.
