The second-generation T-Roc will be the brand’s final vehicle that comes with a combustion engine. The car will be available in four trims in overseas markets with several color options.
New Look for the Volkswagen T-Roc
The updated T-Roc has a much different appearance compared to the previous model. Its design now aligns more closely with other Volkswagen SUVs like the Tiguan. The vehicle’s overall length has grown by 12cm, and it still features a coupe-style roofline at the back.
Standard on the T-Roc are new LED headlamps, with an optional IQ.LIGHT LED matrix system that links to the illuminated Volkswagen badge via a light strip. The front profile gets a blacked-out grille with C-shaped outlining. At the rear, there is a connected LED tail lamp with a glowing red VW logo. The rear profile features a dual-tone bumper design and styling that mimics a faux diffuser.
The SUV now comes with bigger, 20-inch wheels and bold new color options. Overall, the styling is typically Volkswagen with crisp and sharp lines.
Inside the New T-Roc
The interior has been redesigned with a new layout. The dashboard includes fabric upholstery and ambient lighting. The T-Roc borrows several features from the Tiguan and Tayron, such as a ‘driving experience control’ knob on the centre console, which also adjusts volume and lets you switch driving modes.
A head-up display is available as an option. Thanks to the longer body, the cabin offers more space compared to the last model. The infotainment screen measures 13 inches, while the driver’s seat has 14-way electric adjustment and a massage function. The boot capacity has increased by 30 liters, now holding 475 liters.
Platform and Technology Updates
The T-Roc is built on the MQB Evo platform, making it the third Volkswagen SUV to use this modular base, after the Tiguan and Tayron. This platform allows for more advanced tech, like Travel Assist, which supports automatic lane changes.
It also includes Park Assist Pro, which remembers parking routes and can park the car fully automatically over distances up to 50 metres. This feature supports using a smartphone to move the vehicle in and out of parking spots.
Engine Choices for the T-Roc
At launch, the T-Roc offers two petrol engines, both mild hybrids. There is a 1.5-liter, four-cylinder engine available in two power levels: 115 hp and 150 hp. A larger 2.0-liter mild-hybrid engine will join the line-up next year, featuring all-wheel drive. All engines will come with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
In 2026, Volkswagen plans to add a strong-hybrid engine, its first. This system will work like Toyota’s self-charging hybrid, combining a petrol engine with a small electric motor to improve fuel efficiency and lower emissions.
This hybrid will come in two power options, 136 hp and 170 hp, offering up to 306 Nm of torque. It will also have an electric-only driving mode. Unlike some models that use the MEB Evo platform, the T-Roc will not have a plug-in hybrid variant.
While these engines come with front-wheel drive, Volkswagen will offer 4MOTION all-wheel drive with the 2.0-liter TSI engine later on. A sporty T-Roc R model will also be available as the top-performing variant.
Pricing and Availability
The new T-Roc SUV is available in four trims in the overseas market. These include Base, Life, Style and R-Line variants. Pre-orders for the new T-Roc have begun in Germany, with a market release scheduled for November. Starting prices are approximately AED 133,065 (30,845 euros) for the 1.5 eTSI base model.
Given its popularity in the UAE, Volkswagen is likely to bring the second-generation T-Roc to the region.
