Volkswagen T Roc Expert Review
Team SayaraBay says
The Volkswagen T-Roc is known for its key characteristics of being fun to drive, a sporty compact SUV with a bold exterior and German engineering. Retailing since 2017 in the KSA market, it gets its first major facelift into the first generation, the 2025 T-Roc looks even more aggressive, highly desirable with stylish body language, new infotainment and a bigger touchscreen to cater to the changing buyer profiles.
This five-seater SUV, available in the new facelift version, has earned a place among KSA buyers who still love the European flair with premiumness and an affordable ride. Starting at a relatively affordable price point of SAR 121,900, it underpins a 1.4L turbo engine with 149 hp of power and an 8-speed automatic transmission. Highly appealing to young professionals and families, with a new Black Edition package and hybrid likely on the horizon.
In the VW’s product portfolio, the T-Roc sits between the smaller T-Cross and the larger Tiguan, which right positioned it as a midsize option within VW’s SUV range. Interestingly, the SUV has a common MQB platform shared with models like the Golf, highly regarded for its sportiness, practicality, and premium features.
Interior
Design & Quality
The T-Roc’s interior seems to have been changed big time, with a focus on comfort and tech that goes into the buying decision. The highlight is a 10.25-inch touchscreen with MIB3 software and voice assistance, integrated with an 8-inch digital cluster. The design appears to be subtly impactful, with soft-touch plastics, fabric or leather seats, and red stitching for a sporty and premium feel.
The ambient lighting with 30 colors is another feature that makes the cabin highly luxurious especially at night, this is further bolstered by the solid German-built quality which ensures durability and simplicity, and you can rest assured of its longevity in KSA’s weather conditions. The dashboard has been given a treatment to make the drivers interface easy, quick and highly effortless. So, VW has done a great job in revamping the cabin of the T-Roc, which makes it a lot closer to younger buyers choice and also a lot of family attributes, and so you get the vibe of premiumness without that extra fashiness.
Front Seat
The front seats are designed to provide maximum comfort for long journeys, with manual adjustments offering a good range for the perfect position of any size of driver, it feels rightly positioned. The heated and ventilated seats (optional) take care of KSA’s heat rather comfortably, while the height-adjustable driver’s seat gives a commanding view, where the visibility of the front and side is approximate for ease of driving as well as safety too. The multi-function steering wheel has physical buttons with several controls while driving, and so you don’t get distracted.
Electronic Parking Brake
The electronic parking brake with hill-start assist is on the centre console, making parking in hilly areas or tight spaces simple and safe.
Rear Seat
Not anything out of the ordinary, but the passenger seat is functional and practical with reasonable space and comfort, with enough knee and headroom for two adults or three kids. Rear AC vents, a centre armrest, and USB-C ports ensure passengers are well taken care of, although the floor hump limits middle-seat use, but it shouldn’t be a big problem either. So, we are quite impressed with the family-friendly rear seat.
AC Vents
The standard dual-zone automatic climate control with rear vents is strong enough to cool the cabin quickly, something a necessity in KSA’s hot weather. It’s efficient and keeps things fresh for all passengers.
Storage Options
The SUV has enough storage, despite being compact in size. You get a spacious, easy to use glovebox, door pockets for 1L bottles, a centre console, and a rear armrest compartment. In every sense, it is a practical car with plenty of storage spaces around the cabin.
Armrest
Front and rear centre armrests with cupholders add comfort, making long drives relaxing. The padded armrests also provide extra storage, giving the cabin a premium feel.
Charging Options
You get several USB-C ports, a 12V socket, and an optional wireless charging pad to keep devices powered. The rear USB-C ports are great for passengers on trips.
Boot Space
The T-Roc’s boot size is 445 litres, which should suffice for all the daily needs like grocery runs or weekend bags. And, a standard expandable option on special needs after folding the seat, which could go up to 1,290 litres. A cargo management system keeps items secure, a thoughtful design for families.
Safety
- Six airbags (driver, passenger, curtain, side)
- Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS)
- Electronic Stability Control (ESC)
- Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go
- Lane Keep Assist with Blind-Spot Monitoring
- Automatic Emergency Braking
- Parking Assist with front and rear parking sensors
- 360-degree camera (optional)
- Tire Pressure Monitoring System
- ISOFIX child seat anchors
- Hill-Start Assist
Exterior
The exterior of the SUV stands out for its bold and crossover design, as well as its appeal and practicality. The confident road presence with size measuring 4,234 mm in length, 1,819 mm in width, and 1,573 mm in height, with a 2,590 mm wheelbase, sounds compact but looks quite big in flesh, and offers benefits like ease of parking and a spacious cabin.
The high ground clearance of 161 mm is good enough for city roads and light off-road paths, which we find across the Kingdom. It is open to everyone that the facelift sharpens the front grille, with LED lighting, and some eye-catching colours give a more elegant look. Like most VWs, low-slung posture and sharp lines exhibit a sporty persona, while luxurious elements, touches like a panoramic sunroof (optional) further elevate its look.
Front
The front is modern and edgy with an attractive honeycomb grille with the familiar VW logo and connected LED headlights. The lower bumper has air intakes for engine cooling, and optional fog lamps that enhance the sportiness and aggressive front. The bright VW badge looks distinctive and captivating, which gives the T-Roc premium vibes at first glance.
Side
From the side, the T-Roc’s crossover proportions attract attention, coupled with a sloping roofline and flared wheel arches make it look dynamic. The Life trim gets 17-inch alloy wheels, while Style and R-Line upgrade to 18-inch both make it look quite sporting. The red brake callipers (R-Line) peek through, pointing towards a fun drive. The chrome window surrounds and body-colored mirrors with turn signals are nothing but make it look like a segment above, while the lowered suspension looks athletic, and so the SUV is clean and exciting, perfect for city and highway.
Alloy Wheels
The T-Roc’s 17-inch Mayfield alloy wheels (Life) strike a good balance of style and grip, superb for city drives. The 18-inch Nevada or Grange Hill wheels (Style, R-Line) appear more sporty and aggressive, and are good for better handling precision on winding roads. The wheels are appropriately sized and offer a better look and provide solid traction on Saudi pavement or light gravel.
Rear
At the rear, the T-Roc has these smoked LED taillights with animated graphics and contemporary touch. A sporty diffuser, dual exhaust tips (R-Line), and roof spoiler cement its performance character, while the VW logo and T-Roc badging give a complete look. The rear wiper keeps visibility clear in dusty or rainy conditions, something quite useful.
Colors
You have eight colours to choose from for the T-Roc, these include Pure White, Deep Black, Kings Red, Urano Grey, Reflex Silver, Atlantic Blue, Dolphin Grey, and Moonstone Grey.

City performance
In city driving, the T-Roc’s 1.4L turbocharged engine and smooth 8-speed automatic transmission are great to have at your command. The engine feels peppy, and the performance is quite responsive. The seamless gear shifts make stop-and-go traffic a breeze. What also comes into play in the city traffic is the compact size coupled with light, precise steering that gives a lot of comfort, and, besides, is easy to park. We also think the high fuel mileage is another key element to the SUV that should appeal to prospective buyers, as it is quite efficient and helps you reduce running costs, if you choose to drive for your daily commute. Also, the elevated seating position gives superb visibility in busy city streets, which makes it safer and enhances confidence in driving.
Highway performance
On highways, the T-Roc, nothing much changes other than you get to speed it up rather easily as the 250 Nm torque is quite excellent to use. It goes 0-100 km/h under 8.4 seconds, which gives a glimpse of its higher speed, and overtaking is easy. The Sport mode further heightens driving delight by sharpening throttle response and allowing the engine to rev higher, though everyday driving remains smooth and relaxed in normal mode.
Ride and Handling
The T-Roc has a MacPherson strut front suspension and a multi-link rear setup, which enables sharp steering and controlled body motions. The front-wheel drive variant comes with traction control that offers great grip on KSA roads. The SUV is highly flexible and handles occasional twists and turns with nimbleness. The ride is largely firm but comfortable; The steering is light in the city for ease of driving, however, at times feels well tuned and responsive on open roads. So, our experience suggests that driving dynamics has a blend of sportiness with everyday usability, which is a huge strength of the SUV, and so it appears to be a pleasure to drive as well as quite practical too for city and highway.
