2027 GMC Sierra 1500 gets new V8 engines, Denali Ultimate and diesel option

Dammam: The next-generation GMC Sierra 1500 has broken cover with more than just a fresh look. The full-size pickup arrives with two newly developed V8 engines, a redesigned interior and updated technology, while continuing to offer the Duramax diesel that remains a unique option in its segment.

The new Sierra is expected to reach global markets towards the end of 2026.

Two new V8 engines headline the lineup

The biggest talking point for the 2027 Sierra 1500 is what's under the bonnet. GMC has introduced two completely new sixth-generation Small Block V8 engines, a 5.7-litre and a larger 6.6-litre unit.

Both engines are paired with a 10-speed automatic gearbox and sit above the updated TurboMax petrol engine in the range.

The 6.6-litre V8 is particularly noteworthy. It becomes the largest-displacement engine ever offered in a Sierra 1500 and is expected to appeal to buyers looking for effortless towing and strong highway performance.

Alongside these new V8s, GMC will continue offering the enhanced TurboMax engine, giving buyers multiple powertrain choices depending on their priorities.

Denali Ultimate raises the luxury bar

Sitting at the top of the Sierra family is the Denali Ultimate, which now comes equipped with the new 6.6-litre naturally aspirated V8 as standard.

GMC says it is the most powerful naturally aspirated V8 the brand has ever developed.

The cabin has also received significant attention. Every Sierra variant benefits from a redesigned interior, but the Denali Ultimate goes a step further with premium materials including genuine wood trim and distinctive interior finishes.

The standard Crew Cab also offers generous passenger space, with GMC claiming class-leading front headroom and legroom.

Other highlights include a panoramic sunroof, a newly designed MultiPro centre console with additional storage, and a more premium overall cabin layout.

Diesel remains part of the strategy

While many manufacturers continue moving towards downsized petrol and hybrid powertrains, GMC is keeping its Duramax diesel in the Sierra lineup.

The Duramax remains the only diesel option available in this segment, giving the Sierra an advantage for buyers who prioritise long-distance driving, towing capability and fuel efficiency.

Meanwhile, the updated TurboMax engine continues as the entry point into the range, with GMC claiming best-in-class standard torque for its category.

For buyers in GCC markets, the Sierra will be offered with three engine choices:

• New V8 petrol
• Duramax diesel
• TurboMax petrol

This wider selection gives customers more flexibility depending on whether their focus is work, recreation or everyday driving.

Fresh styling and smarter technology

The exterior has been updated with a bolder front-end design, featuring a more upright grille and revised signature lighting.

Depending on the trim, buyers can also opt for animated welcome and farewell lighting sequences, while certain versions gain quad exhaust outlets that further distinguish the flagship models.

Technology has also moved forward. GMC has expanded its digital trailering features, making it easier to tow and manage trailers through the latest onboard systems.
