Comparison: Jetour T1 vs T2

If you stay in any of Saudi Arabia’s big cities, it would be hard to miss the Jetour brand. While it’s a relatively new entrant in the Middle East, the Chinese automaker has been going from strength to strength.
KEY TAKEAWAYS

The Jetour T1 starts at around SAR 114,000, while the Jetour T2 starts at around SAR 125,000.Which SUV has better fuel economy?

The Jetour T2 in Saudi Arabia is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine with 251 hp and 390 Nm of torque.Known for its proclivity for SUVs, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Jetour models on the road in abundance. The Jetour T1 is the (slightly) bigger car here, though it shares its Kunlun architecture with the Jetour T2.
While a lineup full of crossovers/SUVs is a brilliant strategy for this part of the world, Jetour has to contend with a competition-rich market. To further encourage prospective buyers, the brand markets lucrative offers quite often. All that said, how do these two actually compare?
Price Comparison
- If you thought that these cars would be affordable options to their Japanese or Korean counterparts, you’d be wrong. In Saudi Arabia, the Jetour T1 COM variant starts at around SAR 114,000. For reference, this makes the T1 less expensive than its BAIC BJ40 equivalent. Meanwhile, the Jetour T1 LUX variant is priced at around SAR 130,000.
- As for the Jetour T2, it costs more than its T1 stablemate. The price of the Jetour T2 COM variant starts at a smidge below SAR 125,000. If you’re feeling fancier, you can get the fully-loaded Jetour T2 LUX variant in Saudi Arabia for around SAR 140,000. Both these cars come with a 6-year/unlimited kilometer manufacturer's warranty.
Dimensions Comparison
As mentioned before, the T1 is larger in some respects than the T2. However, both are technically midsize crossover SUVs. As you’re about to see, there are areas where these cars’ exterior dimensions overlap (or better than the other).

The most interesting aspect of the design of these two SUVs is that they both have the same basic styling. This involves their shared square body style, boxy exterior elements, muscular haunches, and sporty-looking alloy wheels. The rear of the T1 boasts square-shaped taillights and a beefy bumper finished in black plastic.
Then there’s the Jetour T2, which incorporates a vertical tailgate handle and taillight elements. The T2 also features a squared spare wheel cover, further promoting this car’s SUV design. Not to mention that both these cars sport four-corner LED front main lights. They also get a ‘JETOUR’ branding plastered on the front grille, where the T2 emblazons it with LEDs.
While it’s slightly smaller than the T1, the T2 boasts a slightly larger boot. It can also be had with 20-inch alloy wheels that have a fluorescent finish. These unique touches make the Jetour T2 look a bit more premium and sportier. Being wider and taller further amplifies the T2’s robust character, even though it fits into the same category as the T1.
Drivetrain and Performance Comparison
Both the cars on our list today are powered by petrol engines of a similar displacement. So, this wouldn’t be an aspect that differentiates them. The lack of multiple engine options, though evident, is not entirely unheard of for several Chinese-origin cars. Having said that, here’s how they compare.

Since a front-wheel-drive system has fewer drivetrain losses, the T1 FWD edges ahead of the T2 AWD in terms of fuel economy. The T1’s fuel consumption is further reduced thanks to its torque-converter gearbox, a type that’s usually more conservative than a typical DCT. When it comes to these cars, however, the difference isn’t night & day.
Under the hood of these two SUVs is a turbo-petrol engine that puts out respectable numbers. Given that they weigh around the same, at around 1.8 tons, neither flinches when you floor the accelerator. Where the 8-speed automatic of the T1 picks ratios smoothly, the T2’s 7-speed dual-clutch unit can feel jerky at times.
The slightly lower mass of the T1 also helps it reach 100 kmph a tenth of a second quicker than the T2. For the average driver, though, both cars would not seem lacking in performance during highway passes. Despite their rugged looks, neither is intended for hardcore off-roading. They feel at home in the city, backed by a pliant suspension setup.
Features Comparison
The feature tray of the Jetour T1 and Jetour T2 is equally impressive. Since it costs more, the T2’s equipment list is more robust. To make this comparison more interesting, we will be pitting the top variants of the T1 and T2. Let us now proceed and see how they stack up.

While the differences above may not seem like a big deal, they add up when you’re up close to the T2. The T2 definitely looks boxier, while its fluorescent green highlights make it appear more swanky compared to the T1. On the inside, the T1 puts on quite a show at first as it’s available in three different color themes.
The T2 can be had with an interesting dark green upholstery, which uplifts its interior ambiance. The quality of the cabin materials in these cars is better than what’s found in some of their more established segment rivals. Both get angled dashboards with flat inserts featuring interesting design details. They also have chunky gear knobs and a rotary selection dial.
You won’t have much to complain about as far as their seat comfort and cabin insulation are concerned, either. The seats are well-padded, and in the T2, they hold you in place well thanks to their enthusiastic side bolsters. For those who like their lateral freedom, the T1’s seats are slightly more accommodating and don’t hug you as tightly.

The cabins of the T1 and T2 are well-endowed and provide a sense of premiumness that few competitors can match. The modern design of these cabins elevates the experience of traveling in them, with no apparent lack of modernity. The large door mirrors and flat side windows allow for an almost unrestricted view to the outside world as well.

Depending on the availability, the top variants of both these cars can be had with a similar equipment spread. While there are some goodies associated exclusively with the T2, the distinction between the ‘should have’ and ‘must have’ isn’t a chasm. Coming to the safety features of the T1 and T2, both are bristling with some cutting-edge systems.

Conclusion
Picking one of these cars isn’t as easy as selecting one with the best feature set. Jetour has equipped the T1 and T2 equally well. However, the T2 is designed to handle the rough stuff slightly better than the T1. It also comes with a few more design and comfort items that are missing in the T1.
The Jetour T2 looks more expensive than its T1 sibling, which is reflected in its price tag as well. If you want a well-equipped midsize Jetour SUV that won’t be perplexed when introduced to a rougher surface, pick the T2. Pick the Jetour T1 if you need a larger family SUV that also drives smoothly most of the time.
