Volvo Rolls Out Abbey Road Studios Mode in EX90 with Bowers & Wilkins

Saudi Arabia : Volvo has introduced Abbey Road Studios Mode for the EX90. It is a blend of legendary audio quality with in-car innovation through a free over-the-air update.

• The new Abbey Road Studios Mode has just made its debut in Volvo EX90 with Bowers & Wilkins system.

Volvo Cars has introduced a world-first sound technology in its EX90 SUV — the Abbey Road Studios Mode. This new mode is developed with legendary sound brand Bowers & Wilkins and Abbey Road Studios, and captures the acoustic signature of the famous London recording studio.

It also brings it to drivers in a way that has never been done before. The system, which comes free through over-the-air (OTA) update, will be available to all EX90s with the optional Bowers & Wilkins High Fidelity Audio system.

A New Sound Standard for In-Car Audio

Volvo EX90 has sets a new benchmark for sound in the premium SUV segment by integrating audio signatures from one of the world’s most iconic studios.

The technology, which is developed by Bowers & Wilkins and Abbey Road Studios, replicates the sonic space of the studio and the classic sound of equipment used in iconic recordings.

Jeremy Huffelmann, who is the General Manager of Abbey Road, noted, “The Abbey Road Studios Mode comes with the special sound of our spaces and equipment to the Bowers & Wilkins system in the Volvo EX90. It allows the driver to shape and personalise the sound in the car so they can get a listening experience that is unparalleled.”

Audio Features to Explore

This new mode has many options for listening:

• Studio-inspired presets: Users can choose from carefully tuned settings based on legendary acoustic profiles of Abbey Road.
• Producer Mode: Users can adjust tone, stereo width, and space, just like a real studio engineer.
• Custom sound shaping: Users can go from vintage warmth to crisp modern tones with a few taps.
• Sound control at your fingertips: Users can access all settings via the user interface of the car.

With these features, each EX90 driver will enjoy a soundstage that matches their music preference, trip mood or type of content.

OTA Updates and Seamless Integration

This update is part of Volvo’s move toward vehicles that are software-defined. As noted by Anders Bell, who is the Chief Engineering and Technology Officer at Volvo Cars, “As we have added this world-first experience, it shows we are open to bringing more value to our customers through efficient and simple OTA updates.”

The EX90 already boasts one of the quietest cabins of Volvo as it houses 25 speakers they've placed carefully, a 1610-watt Bowers & Wilkins system, and support for Dolby Atmos. The Abbey Road Mode, with this acoustic platform, is set to further elevate the in-car experience.
