Volkswagen Teramont Expert Review
Team SayaraBay says
The Teramont, Volkswagen’s full-size seven-seater SUV, also known as Atlas in some global markets, sits at the top of the automaker's SUV portfolio. The Teramont has been fairly popular in Saudi Arabia, particularly among families, largely owing to its bigger space, refinement, and great practicality. Arriving in early 2017 in KSA, the SUV has grown into sharper styling, a 15-inch touchscreen, and some cool additions like IQ. Light matrix LEDs and a Black Edition package for an extra premium experience. It takes on some of the highly established rivals, including Toyota Prado and Ford Explorer, the Teramont is an impressive SUV with high-end tech, high adaptability and practicality.
Interior
Design & Quality
The interior undoubtedly feels spacious and premium, and a lot of additional elements that families prefer, like comfort, convenience and a very subtle design. The 15-inch touchscreen with MIB4 software and voice control, integrated with a striking 12-inch digital cluster. The soft-touch plastics, leather upholstery (Highline and above trims), and wood or aluminium trim make the cabin luxurious as well as extravagant, further adding premiumness with ambient lighting. The cabin feels solidly built, something a strong SUV needs, and VW has done a great job, and buyers in KSA feel the ruggedness which can last for a long time. And, the design elements have been strictly focused on the convenience of the driver and great user friendliness, like easily reachable access, a lot of controls on the steering wheel, so you don’t get distracted and drive with ease.
Front Seat
The front seats are comfy to say the least, understandably so for those long road trips. You get power seat adjustments, greater lumbar support, and heating/ventilation (Highline and above) to take care of the occasional heat and the whole of intense summer. The height-adjustable driver’s seat provides the much-needed commanding view as well comfortable driving position to navigate city traffic or highway drivers
Electronic Parking Brake
An electronic parking brake with hill-start assist located at the centre console is quick to use. It helps greatly while parking in tight spaces or on inclines effortlessly. It is combined with Hill Descent Control (optional) for light off-road confidence.
Rear Seat
The second row is spacious with sliding and reclining seats for average-sized three adults, while the third row is mainly for kids or smaller passengers. Normal-sized adults may not sit for a long drive, but for smaller ones, it could be fine. To ensure those sitting in the second and last row are well taken care of by rear AC vents, utilities like USB ports, and armrests. Looks like there is enough attention to detail in ensuring maximum comfort for the rear seat passengers.
AC Vents
The standard tri-zone climate control with rear vents is powerful, and so the cabin gets cool rather instantly, even when the outside temperature is at its peak. No worries when it comes to the cabin AC or temperature, it's great, and controlled by voice, quite easy to operate. cools the cabin fast in KSA’s 45°C heat, with voice controls. It’s efficient for all rows, something familiar and quite useful.
Storage Options
Storage is sufficient, you won’t feel underwhelmed as the cooled glovebox is big enough for all regular stuff to store. The door pockets for 1L bottles, the centre console bin, and the rear armrest compartment feel practical for daily usage.
Armrest
The front and rear armrests with cupholders provide necessary comfort for long journeys. The front armrest doubles as storage, while the rear keeps passengers relaxed.
Charging Options
There are several USB ports, a 12V socket, and a wireless charging pad (optional), and this is vital for devices to stay powered. At the rear, USB ports are great for passengers on road trips.
Boot Space
The Teramont size is 583 litres behind the third row, which can be increased to 1,655 litres with the third row folded and 2,741 litres with all seats down. A power tailgate and cargo management system is highly convenient for families.

And, as expected, being an SUV, its high 203 mm ground clearance is smooth and takes on all the roading conditions that we find in KSA. There are some minor changes on the exterior to make it more contemporary, such as edgy grille, IQ. Light LED headlights and all-new stylish wheels, some premium elements include a panoramic sunroof and R-Line styling, making it stand out, while its aerodynamic angles enhance overall efficiency.
Front
The front is quite visible, bold, and appealing, something that buyers of this segment really give a lot of importance. This comes to your face from a wide grille with a nice and attractive-looking VW logo. Then the elegant matrix LED headlights with adaptive beams integrated with daytime running LEDs, all of which add to the front design of this massive SUV. The lower bumper’s air intakes are meant to cool the engine faster, while optional fog lamps improve overall sporty edge, and so the overall premium face highlights confidence.
Side
From the side, the Teramont’s long wheelbase and muscular fenders give it a strong and rugged look. The CL and Trendline trims get 18-inch alloy wheels, while Comfortline, Highline, and R-Line upgrade to 20-inch or 21-inch wheels, which are targeted for more of a bolder look. The chrome window surrounds, body-colored mirrors with turn signals, and R-Line side skirts (optional) are some extra additions that boost the overall sleekness of the SUV.
Alloy Wheels
The Teramont comes with three different sizes of alloy wheels, 18-inch on CL, Trendline trims, which strike both style and comfort. The 20-inch or 21-inch wheels on Comfortline, Highline, R-Line give that unmistakable sportier stance, with superior grip for peppy drivers or even light off-roading. The wheels are not just great for driving but also provide a sharper and perform well on Saudi pavement or gravel.
Rear
At the rear, the Teramont gets horizontal LED taillights that spread across the width which makes it more stylish and modern. These are small but quite significant design elements that elevate the SUV's overall appeal. A glossy diffuser, dual exhaust tips (R-Line), and roof spoiler known for performance flair, and to keep the rear windshield clean for greater visibility there is a rear wiper, and lastly, not to forget the VW logo and Teramont badging that completes the overall rear view of the car.
Colors
The Teramont right now is available in eight exterior colours in KSA, these are Pure White, Deep Black, Kings Red, Silicon Grey, Antimony Blue, Sechura Beige, Moonstone Grey, and Lapiz Blue. Also, the Black Edition package, a darkened trim you can choose for a stealthy feel, or the King's Red shines brightly in KSA’s summer.

City Performance
After our extensive drive across cities, we can say pretty confidently that the Teramont’s engines are smooth and responsive, quite suitable for city traffic. The 2.0L turbo that has 217 hp of power is quite easy to navigate daily commuting; likewise, the more powerful, 3.6L V6’s 276 hp gives that extra layer of punch, and so you feel at full control in city’s fast-moving roads. The 8-speed automatic is quite seamless, keeping acceleration refined, and VW’s 4MOTION AWD assists in confident grip in wet or sandy stretches. The steering, to our surprise, felt a lot accurate, and so when you’re parking in little tight spaces, it is easy. Making tight parking easier despite its size. Overall, good for the city drive, with a quiet cabin and smooth throttle response in stop-and-go traffic.
Highway Performance
On highways, the Teramont is equally delightful, the 8.2 seconds (2.0L) or 7.5 seconds (3.6L) to 100 km/h, which are great numbers for the SUV, and so you’re set for confident overtaking even when loaded with passengers and luggage, like a breeze. The 360 Nm torque in the 2.0L and 361 Nm in the V6 never make you feel underpowered, you get enough out of whenever needed, while Sport mode sharpens throttle and steering feel. Stability at high speeds is outstanding, and so the long road trips are stress-free. Optional adaptive cruise control is something that further allows relaxed driving.
Ride and Handling
The handling of this rather big SUV is made easy by the multi-link suspension and 4MOTION AWD, which work just fine, ensuring stable, predictable handling. Torque vectoring distributes power efficiently, providing excellent grip on bending roads such as mountain routes. The optional adaptive suspension is an additional feature that boosts comfort, soaking up bumps without compromising control. In Off-Road mode, the Teramont handles light trails and sandy tracks with ease, and qualifies as most suitable for weekend desert trips. It successfully balances between refinement and capability, with a confident driving feel, plush, well-insulated cabin.

Sayarabay Recommendation: For most KSA buyers, the Teramont 3.6L FSI Comfortline AT is the variant to go for. Why? Well, quite simply, you get a well-balanced balance between power, comfort, and value. The strong V6 performance features such as ventilated seats, a panoramic sunroof, Harman Kardon sound, and advanced safety are worth the price and something VW is offering at a competitive price. It is near perfect for families who prefer premium features that enhance the overall ownership experience as well as feel luxurious, not necessarily by paying the top price, which is something great.
Verdict
The Teramont doesn't fail to make a positive impression, and frankly, delivers almost all of its promises in the real world. There is a lot more to this big daddy SUV than meets the eyes.
Take, for example, the stylish exterior design language, contemporary cabin with the sleek 15-inch touchscreen with VW’s latest infotainment system, superior driver assistance features, and a luxurious cabin.
From a practicality aspect, a big 583 litres of boot space, even with all three rows in use, is suitable for a variety of daily use, be it for school runs, road trips, and weekend getaways. The choice of efficient yet capable engines, as per your personal use change or needs, a punchy V6, assures confident city and highway driving. Against rivals like the Toyota Prado or Ford Explorer, the Teramont appears to be a refined cabin, smooth ride, and smart blend of comfort and capability. Anyone in the market for a full-size SUV that has on offer great quality with everyday practicality, the Teramont is a compelling choice.
