Suzuki Jimny 5 Door Expert Review
Team SayaraBay says
The Suzuki Jimny is renowned and acclaimed in the off-road enthusiasts community. This iconic, strong, boxy design compact size SUV is highly regarded for its off-road capabilities, and there are generations of off-road adventurers who just love its overall profile. What makes the Jimny popular is its appeal to both city and adventure drives, supported by nimble and agile performance with a 4WD system. The proven and refined 1.5L engine is peppy, nicely blending power and torque with reasonably good fuel mileage for a car like this.
Besides the performance, the Jimny is also attractive and elegant in the interior, with a durable and premium feel where practicality meets luxury in equal measures. Then comes the safety, where the Jimny also scores quite well, and after its relaunch in the new avatar, this compact off-roader is finding new buyers who love its overall tough and robust build quality. So, if you’re among the prospective buyers mulling over whether to buy this SUV, then read our detailed review to understand the Jimny well.
Interior
The interior gives the vibes of practicality, comfort, and premiumness, and the quality of materials used makes them highly durable. Suzuki has done a great job in making the Jimny’s interior stand out as a strong off-roader..
Design
- The entire cockpit is nicely laid out with clear visibility across and spaciousness. The design is pretty simple, and the toggle switches and funky controls are easier to use.
- Cabin colour options include black or black-and-grey dual-tone schemes.
- The interior is impressive, and feels energetic and visually pleasing, and feels comfy
- We noticed there is enough Hard-wearing plastic to make sure it is durable and reminds you this is an off-road SUV.
- The infotainment integrates with the overall design, easy to access all the controls and quite functional too..
- So, overall, nothing to complain about something that is altogether out of place; everything mostly fits in with a subtle approach to the whole design.
Driving Position
- The driver’s seat definitely feels higher and gives you control over the SUV, best visibility and comfortable seating with a nice grip.
- A relatively higher seating position means you can drive confidently.
- The driver seat comes with several adjustments and also offers lumbar support.
- The standard tilt-adjustable steering wheel ensures you get the best position to drive.
- We didn’t feel real issues with steering, which is electric power
- Overall, the Jimny has enough focus on driver comfort and agility, given that it is an off-road special, but does a good job for city driving too.
Passenger Comfort
- Getting into the back seat isn’t the easiest task, as door openings are square but tiny and make entry and exit less convenient.
- But once you’re at the back, there is enough space for an average-sized adult with comfortable headroom and legroom.
- The rear seats mostly feel compact and suitable for two passengers, with limited space suitable mostly for short trips or children.
- The seatbacks recline in two steps, which offers fairly good comfort
- The pear passengers do not have dedicated air vents or USB charging ports.
Storage
- Even though Jimny is a compact SUV, the interior storage is decent, with a lot of focus on practicality.
- The storage spaces include a glovebox and a storage pocket behind the front passenger seat for easy access.
- The front door pockets allow small items like maps or bottles.
- A decent-sized central cubby hole near the gear lever can fit small essentials.
Boot Space
- The Jimny has a compact boot space of approximately with rear seats up, suitable for small luggage or daily essentials. Remember, this isn’t the biggest SUV, and so you will get much less than any regular car.
- However, after folding the rear seats, the space increases significantly, which then frees up space to carry bigger luggage, be it for a road trip or outdoor gear or camping equipment, but keep in mind, you don’t get a completely flat floor.
- Overally, there is a limit to boot size that means you can’t carry larger luggage, which makes it slightly less practical for long trips, but for short trips, you are just fine.
Safety
Safety is a priority for the Jimny, with a suite of features designed to inspire confidence in various driving conditions. While it hasn’t undergone NCAP crash testing, its reinforced ladder-frame chassis, side-impact door beams, and ISOFIX child seat anchorages provide a solid foundation for occupant protection.
Standard Safety Features
- Passenger Airbag and Driver Airbag
- Central Locking and Power Door Locks
- Anti-Lock Braking System and Electronic Brakeforce Distribution
- Brake Assist, Rear Seat Belts and Seat Belt Warning
- Day & Night Rear View Mirror for superb visibility along with Crash Sensor and Side Impact Beams, add extra safety.
- Door Ajar Warning, Engine Immobiliser and ISOFIX Child Seat Anchorages
- The Hill Hold Assist, Electronic Stability Program and Tire Pressure Monitoring System.
Advanced Safety Features
- Brake & Clutch Pedal Release System
- Hill Descent Control
- Shift Lock / Key Interlock
- Automatic Braking
- Automatic High Beam
- Reverse Parking Sensors
Exterior
Looking at the Jimny quickly reveals its strong, bold and familiar boxy exterior, highlighting its off-road DNA with quite practical design elements clearly visible. What makes it easily recognisable is the compact dimensions, the aggressive, bold styling elements with the round LED headlights and a five-slot grille. We think the Jimny exterior in its fourth generation now blends contemporary design with some traces of a retro, solid appearance, which is quite suitable for city as well as famous desert fun trips.
- The exterior is defined by the quintessential round LED headlights with washers, which improves visibility along with the five-slot black grille with chrome accents, giving a completely strong and at the same time refined look.
- The Front bumper nicely combines fog lamps during off-road and poor weather visibility.
- Take a look from the side, and the concise and boxy silhouette with body-colored door handles and black wheel arch mouldings that certainly are lasting
- The electrically adjustable and foldable side mirrors are typical and offer the usual benefits of convenience and protection.
- The Jimny gets 15-inch dark metallic grey alloy wheels fitted with all-terrain tires, which makes is truly an off-road vehicle
- At the rear, you get a manual tailgate with a full-size spare tire mounted externally, then rear fog lamps, and a high-mount stop lamp, which enhances overall safety
- With sizable ground clearance and bold fender flares allows for taking on rough terrains with ease.
- The moulded wheel arch trims and reinforced side doors ensure structural protection during off-road use when you’re going through some unfamiliar terrains
- Overall, the Jimny spans across in length of 3,645 mm, a width of 1,645 mm, a height of 1,725 mm, and a 2,250 mm wheelbase seems suitable for the SUV, giving it a good road presence.
- Exterior Colours: Available in Yellow Tang, Jungle Green Metallic, Blue Jade, Grey Metallic Kad, Luzonite Grey, Bluish Black Pearl, and Slate Grey, catering to diverse tastes.
In summary, we feel the overall exterior design mirrors the Jimny’s well-known image of strong and stylish, and among the key choices of KSA buyers in the off-road, all-wheel drive segment.

Ride and Handling
Now on to the most exciting part of the review, which is the driving experience and overall handling of this rugged SUV
- Starting with the ride quality, we felt the Jimny drives really well, just like a much bigger car. And, given its overall character, no matter where you’re in the tough terrains or city potholes, you hardly feel them.
- While driving, we found this compact, relatively affordable SUV is quite authentic, real and comes with its own identity with exciting capabilities.
- Not, the Jimny is best when you take it to its preferred environment, which obviously is the off-road. In this, despite the tough and challenging road with water, gravel and mud, the Jimny is highly capable.
- Whether it is acceleration, quick turnaround or higher speed, it takes it all comfortably.
- The AllGrip Pro 4WD system provides you with switchable 2WD/4WD modes and low-range gearing for superior traction on hilly or rocky trails, on sand dunes and rocky trails.
- Now, if you take it for a change to a city drive, the Jimny feel easy, flexible and also comfortable to cruise
- The K15B, 1.5L, 4-cylinder engine is not bad; it offers power and torque adequately, and doesn't feel underpowered whenever you need those performance elements.
- The 5-speed automatic transmission is not the best, but functional and works fine.
- Since it is an off-order, we found the cabin is quite silent with effective control of the noise.
Features
Consider the Jimny, your affordable all-wheel drive compact SUV, and so it does get most of the wow features, but it doesn’t deserve to be compared with expensive rivals. There are plenty of nice features that should make your experience great as far as entertainment, comfort, convenience, and connectivity go.
- Halogen Multi Reflector Headlamps and Front and Rear Fog Lamps, and Daytime Running Lights (DRL)
- A 9-inch infotainment touch screen
- Air Conditioner, Power Windows Front and Rear
- Automatic Climate Control and Heater
- Adjustable Seats and Automatic Headlamps
- Accessory Power Outlet and Power Steering
- Multi-function Steering Wheel and Cruise Control
- 50:50 Split Folding Rear Seat
- Low Fuel Warning, FM/AM Radio and Digital Clock
- Front Cup Holders, Vanity Mirror, Keyless Entry
- Light-off and Key Reminder, and Pollen Filter
- Passenger’s Side and Rear Assist Grips
Variant
As far as the KSA market is concerned, Suzuki is offering the Jimny in two variants.
- GL MT is the base variant that comes with the same powertrain, but the only thing different is the five-speed manual transmission. Some of the features are an infotainment system with standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, keyless entry, rear parking sensors, dual airbags, ABS, EBD, TCS, and hill hold control. This variant offers an entry into this off-road SUV at a very affordable price without missing out much, and serves the purpose quite well.
- GLX AT is a top-end variant with the same 1.5L engine, which pairs it with a four-speed automatic transmission. Besides the regular features, since this is a premium model with a higher price, you get additional features like a 360-degree camera, automatic climate control, a leather steering wheel, cruise control, and additional airbags, front automatic AC, front lamp washer, and cruise control. So, if you wish to pay that premium, then go for the GLX AT, which should be an ideal choice for those who prefer a fully loaded Jimny with greater convenience and safety features.
SayaraBay Recommends: Since there are only two variants available for KSA, you don’t get to choose much other than a manual or automatic gearbox. The Jimny is not hard to recommend simply because it is quite affordable, an all-wheel drive and an off-road compact SUV in the market right now. With its strong build quality, easy to drive and capable engine, you are spoiled for a true off-road experience in our famous deserts without worrying about breaking anything. Not just that, but the Jimny could be your everyday drive too, yes, it can be simply because it is compact, easy to park, manoeuvre, so fulfilling the unique dual role.
Verdict
If you’re already into adventure/off-road driving and love a 4x4 car, then you frankly don’t need much convincing for the Jimny. However, if you’re looking to get your first 4x4 car and exploring options, then we would recommend the Jimny as a great option for you. Starting at what we would call a modest price for an all-wheel drive SUV, starting from SAR 93000, this would be your gateway into the Off-road arena. The Jimny undoubtedly has a proven off-road capability; its compact size means you can use it for city driving as well. And, quickly honestly, Suzuki in this new version has equipped the Jimny well with all the usual elements including the 1.5L engine and AllGrip Pro 4WD system, and we have already stated the exterior and interior quite detailed, the Jimny is a the best option in the market for off-road enthusiasts, adventure seeker and anyone looking for fun to driver characters in KSA.
Other Cars to Consider
If you’re considering buying the Jimny, which is quite unique but also open to explore a true off-roader, all-wheel drive option, then the below list covers it, not the direct rivals to the Jimny, but somewhat similar.
Jeep Wrangler: A slightly expensive and above-segment, this is a powerful off-roader, with elements of luxury, strong, rugged and tough build quality with a famous design
Toyota RAV4: More of a family-oriented but reliable SUV, but not entirely off-road focused.
Nissan X-Trail: A spacious family SUV, which promises reliability and practicality but less off-road.
