Audi A6 Sportback e-tron Breaks EV Range Record with 1,338 km on One Charge

Saudi Arabia: The Audi A6 Sportback e-tron performance has set a new Guinness World Record after covering 1,338 km on a single battery charge. Driven by reigning European Rally Champion Miko Marczyk, the production electric car completed the run across Poland without recharging, achieving an average energy consumption of just 7.09 kWh/100 km. The result is particularly notable because the A6 Sportback e-tron performance has an official WLTP range of up to 777 km. The record run therefore extended the car's certified range by more than 560 km, or roughly 72%.

The record attempt began at 1:55 a.m. on September 11, 2026, in Poland. Marczyk drove along the Vistula River, passing through Kraków, Sandomierz, Warsaw, Toruń and Grudziądz before reaching Hel on the Baltic Sea coast. He then retraced the route, with the journey ending between Toruń and Ciechocinek after more than 45 hours of driving. Importantly, the drive took place on public roads and in regular traffic, including sections affected by rush-hour conditions. Temperatures also varied during the journey. Audi reports an average temperature of around 15°C, while the temperature dropped to as low as 7°C during the early morning in Grudziądz. The final distance recorded was 1,338 km, making the run a Guinness World Record for the longest journey by a series-production electric car on a single charge.

What Audi A6 Sportback e-tron Was Used?

Audi says Marczyk used a standard A6 Sportback e-tron performance, rather than a specially developed prototype. The car uses a rear-mounted electric motor producing 367 hp and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.4 seconds. Its battery has a 94.9 kWh net capacity, while the battery's gross capacity is 100 kWh.

How Did the Audi A6 e-tron Achieve 1,338 km?

The record was not achieved simply by fitting a larger battery. Audi attributes the result to the combination of the car's aerodynamics, electric powertrain, thermal management and highly efficient driving. The A6 Sportback e-tron has a 0.21 drag coefficient, which Audi identifies as the lowest of any Audi production car. The company says aerodynamic drag accounts for around 40% of the Sportback's energy consumption in the WLTP cycle. Regenerative braking also played an important role. The system can recover energy during deceleration at up to 220 kW, with Audi stating that around 95% of braking events in everyday driving can be handled through regenerative braking.

What Does the Record Mean for EVs?

The 1,338-km run demonstrates how much range can be extracted from a production EV when the vehicle and driving style are focused heavily on efficiency. It also highlights the importance of factors beyond battery capacity. Aerodynamics, rolling resistance, regenerative braking, thermal management, and driving behaviour can all have a significant effect on an EV's energy consumption. For the Middle East, the record could attract attention where long-distance driving is an important consideration for EV buyers.
