Toyota’s V8-Powered Supra Set to Dominate 2026 Supercars Championship

SAUDI ARABIA : Toyota has officially announced its entry into the 2026 Repco Supercars Championship with its bold and race-ready version of its iconic GR Supra. It is powered by a naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8 engine.

This announcement from Toyota marks a key development in motorsports. Now, it will roar through the circuits with its own V8 powerhouse, the 2UR-GSE. This engine is commonly found in the Lexus RC F and LC 500 and is known for its performance and reliability. It has also been used in the Dakar-winning Hilux. Toyota’s shift towards a V8 engine in the Supra is likely to captivate racing enthusiasts.

Toyota said that it is going to develop the racing variant of the Supra in partnership with Walkinshaw Andretti United (WAU), an established name in motorsport. WAU is transitioning from running Ford Mustangs to fielding four Toyota Supras in the 2026 Supercars Championship. The two drivers of the cars have already been identified - Chaz Mostert and Ryan Wood. 

The brand is likely to reveal additional details on the remaining team. The partnership between Toyota and WAU will span for five years, which reflects the commitment of the manufacturer to its high-profile racing series.
