Jaguar Type 01 Debuts at New York World Premiere: What You Need to Know

Saudi Arabia: Jaguar has officially unveiled the new Type 01 at a world premiere in New York. This marks a major step in the British brand's transition into a new all-Electric era. It is the most technologically advanced, powerful, and aerodynamic model ever. The Type 01 is a luxury four-door Grand Tourer developed around Jaguar's dedicated Electric Architecture. It combines a dramatic exterior design with a technology-focused cabin and a tri-motor all-wheel-drive system. The new Jaguar is also the first production model built on the brand's dedicated Jaguar Electric Architecture (JEA), which will be designed, engineered, and built in the UK, with production scheduled to begin in 2027.

Jaguar Type 01 Performance and Range

The Type 01 is positioned as a high-performance electric Grand Tourer. It produces a maximum power of up to 1,030 PS and a 0–62 mph time of 3.2 seconds. It uses a tri-motor all-wheel-drive system that delivers instant torque and intelligent torque vectoring to manage the available power. The car also features four-corner air suspension, switchable-volume air springs and twin-valve active dampers. All-wheel steering is designed to provide greater agility at lower speeds while improving stability at higher speeds.

The Type 01's stiff integrated body and battery structure provide the foundation for its low centre of gravity and 50:50 weight distribution.

Long Range and Fast Charging

 

Range is another major focus of the Type 01, it offers a WLTP range up to 450 miles. The car supports 350 kW rapid DC charging, allowing a 10–80% charge in as little as 22 minutes. The Type 01 can add up to 200 miles of range in 13 minutes under the specified charging conditions. Its thermal management system is designed to manage both the cabin and battery. It can cool the cabin in hot weather while also using energy from ambient air in cold conditions to warm the battery.

Dramatic Jaguar Type 01 Exterior

The Type 01 takes a different approach to traditional Jaguar design, with a long bonnet, low roofline and monolithic body shape. At the front, Jaguar's new Strikethrough graphic is combined with the brand's slimmest LED headlights yet. The two upper lights feature HD projection. The rear continues the Strikethrough theme with full-width rear lights, while the vehicle uses powerful shoulders and a glassless tailgate to create a more solid appearance. Other exterior details include frameless doors, hidden door handles, discreetly integrated sensors, and a three-stage deployable spoiler. The Type 01 rides on 23-inch wheels, while Jaguar also offers a unique 21-inch all-season wheel option. Customers can choose from standard all-season or optional summer tyres.

A Four-Seat Luxury Interior

Inside, the Type 01 focuses on creating a more individual experience for its occupants. A central spine runs through the cabin, creating four individual spaces while incorporating storage areas, cupholders and controls for the second row. The low seating position is designed around the Grand Tourer character of the vehicle, while Jaguar's stiff body architecture and Active Road Noise Cancellation are intended to improve cabin refinement. The interior also features dual-isolated drive units and a full-width Meridian Panoramic Soundbar. The front seats also feature hot stone massage.

Large Digital Displays and Connectivity

The driver's area is dominated by a 24-inch glass OLED display that stretches towards the centre of the dashboard and combines the vehicle's instrumentation and infotainment functions. A separate 7-inch display sits between the driver and front passenger for additional controls. The Type 01 also offers:

The ClearSight Rear View Display is integrated into the Panoramic Soundbar and replaces the conventional rear-view mirror. The 3D Surround Camera in Type 01 provides an additional view around the vehicle.

Practicality Meets Grand Tourer Design

Despite its dramatic proportions, Jaguar has also focused on everyday usability. The Type 01 offers more than 450 litres of combined load space, pull-out compartments and hidden storage. The powered tailgate opens to reveal split-level storage, while a hidden underfloor area provides additional space. The rear seats can also tilt forward to accommodate larger items. A panoramic roof with Virtual Blinds is available, while Cabin Moods can adjust interior lighting, fragrance and the panoramic roof blind to create different environments.

Connected Charging Technology

Jaguar has integrated charging technology into the Type 01's digital ecosystem. The Jaguar app connects drivers with a network of charging points and multiple charging providers. The vehicle has charging ports on both sides, making it easier to plug in depending on where it is parked. Jaguar Route Planning can automatically schedule charging stops when needed. The Jaguar app also allows users to manage functions such as cabin pre-conditioning and remote locking and unlocking.

Jaguar Type 01 Price and Availability

The Type 01 will enter production in 2027 at the company's Solihull operations in the UK. Its electric drive units and battery packs will be made in Wolverhampton, while pressed body panels will be manufactured in Halewood, Merseyside. The Type 01 1,030 PS price starts from £129,950, and the Design Vision version starts from £144,950 on The Road. The orders for Type 01 are most likely to open in early 2027, with first customer deliveries expected in the second half of 2027. Saudi Arabian pricing and availability are yet to be announced.
