Chery’s New Himla Pickup Is Ready to Take on the Toyota Hilux and Ford Ranger

Saudi Arabia : Chery, the Chinese automaker has launched a new pick-up Himla at the ongoing Auto Shanghai 2025. This is the brand’s first entry into the pick-up truck segment and the vehicle aims to take on the likes of Ford Ranger and Toyota Hilux at the global stage. 

Specifications

While the exact specifications of the new pick-up haven’t been revealed by the company, looking at the global trends in this segment, one can expect it to underpin ladder-frame chassis. This will let the vehicle compete against the established players regarding towing capacity and payload.

As far as the powertrain is concerned, it could be either diesel, petrol or even a possibility of a hybrid.

Exterior Highlights 

• The pick-up has a striking similarity with the KP11 prototype unveiled in October 2024. However, the new production-ready version flaunts a new wheel design and body paint, looking like a stripped-back model with fewer accessories. 
• At the front, the Himla pickup sports split LED headlamps, an aggressive grille with Chery branding in the middle and aluminium-styled skid plates beneath. It also gets brawny fenders and a muscular hood.
• The vehicle rolls on rugged alloy wheels shod with all-terrain tyres. The rear profile features vertical taillamps and integrated side steps on the bumper lending a sporty and practical touch.

From the looks, it seems like a top-spec trim having traits like the Ford Ranger Wildtrak.

Comfy Interiors

• The interior features a modern and sleek design, with a large touchscreen infotainment system reminiscent of Tesla, accompanied by a digital instrument cluster.
• The cabin is adorned with light-coloured seats that mimic the look and feel of leather, while rear passengers enjoy the convenience of their air vents, adding to the overall sense of comfort and luxury.
• The bed looks roughly the same size as competitors Ford Ranger, Toyota Hilux, Mitsubishi Triton, VW Amarok, Kia Tasman, Mazda BT-50, Nissan Navara and Isuzu D-Max.

As the company aims to target the Toyota Hilux and Ford Ranger in this segment, the overall interiors will be in line with these vehicles.

Price and Availability in the UAE 

While the launch has been confirmed for Europe, Latin America and the Middle East, the price of the Himla pick-up truck is expected to undercut rivals in the segment.
